After ten years of research, Nicholas Pine and his late editor Norman Pratten have produced a complete listing of all known Goss Arms and Decorations in a magnificent 320 page large format Hardback book with full colour jacket. The book provides a unique and comprehensive listing, with values, of the 10,000 plus coats of arms and decorations which adorn ed Goss China during its period of production spanning 80 years. Also included are chapters on the manufacture and decoration of Goss China and a history of W H Goss and his factory.
The largest section, geographical, place names contains, 2,200 entries, including those introduced by Arkinstall & Son (Arcadian) when they took-over the works in 1929. All these Arcadian place names, 1,100 in all, are listed in a special section of the book so that collectors for the first time can ascertain the arms used only in the Goss factory. The book encompasses the complete range used in the factory including: chapters on all Civic arms in the British Isles and overseas, Royal, Nobility and Personal, Education, Medical and Ecclesiastical, Commemoratives and Exhibitions, Transfer Printed Pictorial Views and Enameled Illustrations, Regimental Badges and Naval Crests, Flora and Fauna, Armour Flags and Masonic and late decorations know as a Third Period.
The Guide contains over 2,000 illustrations and every piece listed in the period is priced or valued, sub-divided into over 100 easy-to-use sections. The book has been designed for use in conjunction with 'The Concise Encyclopedia and Price Guide in Goss China' by the same author. Collectors and dealers who possess a copy of the Encyclopedia are strongly advised to acquire this book so that accurate up-to-date values may be obtained for each piece, for as often as not, the decorations on a particular piece is worth much more than than the piece itself.
